Background: A resident of Mount Kembla since 1965, Wendy Richardson studied English Literature and Drama at the University of Wollongong. The majority of her plays, which represent a significant social history of the Illawarra region, were commissioned by Theatre South. At 2pm on July 31, 1902, Mount Kembla colliery exploded, killing 96 men and boys. Windy Gully’s examination of this event and its effect on the community struck a chord with audiences and this second season toured to Newcastle, Queensland mining towns, and the Hunter Valley.
