Abstract
This doctorate investigates the history of gender inequality within Australia's literary and arts culture and poses the question - is it any easier for contemporary women writers to achieve acclaim today than it was for their counterparts in the inter/war years, 1920 - 1945?
The research is presented in two parts, a novel, Triptych, which contrasts the lives of two women of different generations and their respective experiences of gender inequality, and a research thesis which offers a detailed analysis of the impact of gender inequality on Australian women writers, especially in their quest for recognition and acclaim.
