Abstract
The fundamental need to belong has likely led to protective behaviours such as an increased awareness to cues of rejection. However, being hypervigilant to rejection can have downsides and might contribute to disruptions in interpersonal relationships. The current program of research aimed to investigate how an oversensitivity to rejection, termed rejection sensitivity, relates to the quality of romantic relationships. Over six chapters, findings from six independent studies are reported that explore rejection sensitivity as it relates to romantic relationship outcomes in adults.
