Abstract

Ocean bays and harbours are subject to forced oscillations due to long waves which exist in the open ocean. This thesis examines the amplification factors in various shaped bays for different forcing spectra of long waves in the open ocean. Port Kembla Outer Harbour, which is situated on the East Coast of Australia about 50 miles south of Sydney, is considered as an application of this theory because it has a history of severe ranging during storm activity.
