Abstract

The unidirectional solidification of ironiron sulphide eutectic alloys has been studied using gradients of ^O^C, 80°C and lOO^C per centimetre, and solidification rates varying between 0.1 and 5.0 centimetres per hour. The alloys contained less than 100 p.p.m. impurities together with controlled additions of oxygen ranging from l4 p.p.m. to 98 p.p.m.
