Abstract
In writing these notes we began with the notion of giving a detailed exposition of the broad area captured by the phrase ‘index theory beyond the Fredholm case’. However this would be a very ambitious project. To keep this to a manageable text we decided to focus here on one aspect of this topic which is nevertheless broad enough to touch on all previous work.
