Including the voices and opinions of adults living with intellectual disability who are functionally nonverbal in a project directly concerning them–research note on the challenges and successes
Publication Name
International Journal of Social Research Methodology
Abstract
The voices and opinions of people living with severe intellectual disability (ID) who are functionally nonverbal (FNV) and/or have complex communication needs (CCN) are often excluded from projects that concern them as well as from research projects about them. This research note details how one community-based research project included the opinions and voices of this cohort. It details the methodology and process, including its challenges and successes in the research and design of an adult-sized playground.
