Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic and associated supply chain disruptions have affected food supply chains (FSCs) globally, sparking interest among experts, practitioners, and decision-makers worldwide. In addition, studies have highlighted that digital technologies (DT) can help improve supply chain disruption through effective forecasting. This research focuses on the impact of digital technology capabilities (DTC) in managing the FSCs in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Thus, how FSC management strategies are used and how they relate to food security (FS), resilience, and sustainability of supply chains. Furthermore, it aims to understand the relationship between the use of DT in various FSCs and their effect on corporate performance. The proposed research hypotheses aim to explain the influence and the mediating relationship of DTC and adaptive forecasting capabilities on the sustainable food system, supply chain resilience, and cooperation in the FSC, in addition to the impact of the firm's profits on the sustainable food system. Through a survey, the research study will aim to address the presented research questions. One of the most significant gaps was the paucity of studies on FSC sustainability using DTC in the UAE. The study will also provide valuable insights into the implementation and use of DTs in the FSCs to reduce food loss and improve the ability to predict and track food through real-time information exchange.
