Abstract

In this paper, solar photovoltaic (PV) array fed model predictive controlled induction motor (IM) drive operated water pumping system is proposed. It utilizes finite set model predictive control (FS-MPC) strategy to determine the optimal prediction vectors. By leveraging the position of the stator flux and the sign of the torque error, the active prediction vectors are efficiently reduced from eight to three. The dc-link voltage of the 2-level voltage source inverter (VSI) is regulated by employing perturb & observe (P&O) algorithm at the PV side. The estimation of the reference speed is carried out by effectively harnessing solar PV power and the error between the actual dclink voltage and its reference value. The proposed control strategy enhances the overall performance of the system, reduces stator current total harmonic distortion (THD), and minimizes steady-state error.
