RIS ID

Abstract
This chapter describes the context in which pre-schools exist in England. It describes the settings in which the children in the EPPE sample started their pre-school expenence. It covers what these early experiences look like day-to-day and how this relates to the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum framework (DCSF, 2008). The term pre-school is employed here as a generic term for all types of providers.
