A nomen nudum erected by Johannessen (1997) in the unpublished preface to his Ph.D. thesis is validated here as Goniophyllum osloense Johannessen, 2015. In the section below, the text included in parentheses is directly quoted from Johannessen (1997, p. 16). Material of his new early Silurian (upper Telychian) operculate coral species is all from the Vik Formation, Oslo region, Norway, and the species was proposed as follows: "Goniophyllum M. Edwards & Haime, 1850"...
