Ribosomal proteins in eukaryotes

Abstract
About 80 different ribosomal proteins are involved in the biogenesis and functioning of eukaryotic ribosomes. Genome sequencing efforts have contributed to our knowledge on their evolution, and recent progress in the structural analysis of the ribosome has considerably improved our understanding of the localization and function of individual ribosomal proteins, some of which are also involved in extraribosomal functions.
