Selecting medical students: the past, present and future

Abstract
This chapter provides a brief history of medical student selection and then describes the development and analysis of the method of selection in a new medical school in Australia. The development of a method of student selection made use of current thinking around high quality selection procedures. These discussions provide an insight into the future developments in relation to selecting the best students to become the best practitioners.
