Background: This production stemmed from a proposal for a musical adaptation of The Tempest from Lynne Williams and Stephen Edwards of the National Theatre, London in 1988. An ambitious undertaking, it originally involved 75 students and most of the staff of the University of Wollongong’s Creative Arts School. The scale of the project, involving composing a musical score, meant it was not fully realised until August 1989. The musical and vocal score was recorded in the studios of Radio 2 MBS-FM.
