Abstract
With coeliac disease is associated an increased risk of malignant lymphoma and adenocarcinoma of the small bowel. We report about a 41-year-old woman with coeliac disease presented with an acute abdomen. The diagnosis was a jejunal ileus. A surgical emergency was undertaken, we saw a malignant looking stricture in the jejunum. The pathological examination after resection showed a moderately differentiated adenocarcinoma in stadium II. Tumours of the small intestine produce unspecific and late symptoms and physical signs. An exclusion of gastrointestinal malignancies is necessary when coeliac patients show unspecific symptoms of gastrointestinal tumours. Conversely it is important to exclude coeliac disease after the diagnosis of malignancies of the small bowel.
