Abstract
This chapter examines the role of the Coastal State in maritime regulation and enforcement. It will be divided into four sections. The first will discuss the general jurisdictional competence of Coastal States in order to provide a basic contextual information to the chapter. The second will examine the enforcement and regulatory powers of the Coastal State in the various maritinme zones of jurisdiction. The third will discuss contemporary challenges and enforcement issues. The final section will be the conclusion, which will provide some final observations and recommendations.
