Abstract

The steady decline in the proportion of solicitors practising in rural, regional and remote communities has led to a critical shortage. A recent study of the levels and effects of HECS debt on graduate employment choices shows that a HECS Rebate is unlikely to offer an effective long-term solution to the recruitment and retention problems faced by RRR communities.
