Abstract
2018 IEEE. Overcoming local limitations in distribution networks with high solar photovoltaic (PV) generation is a challenging issue, unless appropriate planning strategies and regulations are in place. Determination of solar PV hosting capacity of a distribution network can help in maintaining secure and healthy operation of the electricity grid without violating grid operational limits, specially during the peak solar power generation periods. This paper presents a feeder-based PV hosting capacity evaluation approach to determine a safe limit. It is proposed to use simplified calculations to establish the feeder hosting capacity in lieu of detailed network analyses, which increases complexity. Probabilistic nature of the proposed approach accounts for the randomness of solar PV presence within distribution networks. Monte Carlo Simulations (MCS) are performed to analyse maximum limits for solar PV integration using DIgSILENT PowerFactory as the simulation platform.
