Cyclotron resonance of mixed phases of the 2-D system in the ultra-quantum limit

Abstract
We report cyclotron resonance measurements on low-density, high-mobility 2-D electron systems which show that in the ultra-quantum limit, for occupancies v⩽0.1, the resonance splits into two components which we attribute to the presence of mixed phases of the system. The intensity is seen to transfer between the components as a function of temperature and field, with 100% low-temperature phase achieved at temperatures close to the classical Wigner-solid melting condition.
