Abstract
This chapter conceptualizes short-term mission (STM) travel as a distinct form of religious tourism that not only provides opportunities for personal growth through the acquisition of new cross-cultural knowledge and feelings of existential authenticity, but also leads to unique spiritual transformations. Based on interviews with US and Korean STM travellers to South-east Asian countries, this chapter illustrates how deep feelings of servitude to God and personal sacrifice experienced during an STM leads to a new-found spirituality and strengthened beliefs.
