Abstract

This volume is the published proceedings of a seminar held in Canberra in 2004, in conjunction with the Centre for Maritime Policy at the University of Wollongong, which examined:

  • environmental legislation and Australian Defence Force (ADF) capability requirements affecting maritime training
  • the impact of legislation on the nature of ADF training
  • how the impact of ADF training on the environment can be minimised
  • the potential for further work in these areas.

Incorporating these issues into the context of the use of Jervis Bay, this volume discusses how Defence activities can be successfully conducted, including due regard for the values and constraints of marine and terrestrial national parks, and the needs and aspirations of the local community.
