Epilepsy in Africa: Past, present, and future
Abstract
About 10 million people are affected directly by epilepsy in Africa, representing approximately 20% of people with epilepsy worldwide. In addition to a high prevalence, the African region also has a very wide epilepsy treatment gap that is estimated to be up to 100% in some communities. Nevertheless, progress has been made, and there are opportunities for the future, as this article will show.
