Abstract
This is an extremely valuable enterprise, for which John Cooper and Hackett deserve our gratitude. The Complete Works (which is, for practical purposes the first complete Plato in English), marks the completion of the Hackett translations of Plato. These are among the most readable, and are guided by a sensible view of the point of translating works of philosophy. For this volume, all previous translations were revised, a further 20 were commissioned, and 5 previously published elsewhere were adopted. Cooper has overseen the Hackett translations since 1980, and discusses his approach in the Introduction.
