Abstract
An expatriate woman, Mrs Doris Booth, was among the minority of nominated, non-official members (that is members appointed by, but not to represent, the Territory's Administration) in the first and second Legislative Councils between 1951 and 1957. The first Papua_ New Guinean woman to sit in the legislature was Alice Wedega from Milne Bay, who was a nominated, non-official member of the reconstituted Legislative Council between 1961 and 1963.
