Abstract
Australian artists are interrogating, and impacting on, conceptions of cultural identity, history and performance in many different ways in an international context. Crucial here is the relationship between European presenters and producers, and the strategies of Australian policy makers abroad. This relationship is examined by means of a focus specifically on music theatre works currently in repertoire, the Performing Lines' production The Theft of Sita and Moon Spirit Feasting by the Elision Ensemble, and by reference to a range of recent international presentations by Australian companies including the Marrugeku Company, Urban Dream Capsule and Phillip Adams' BalletLab.
