Abstract

In a charcoal blast furnace about 80% of the furnace volume is occupied by charcoal and the rest by the ferrous material. The gasification and properties of the charcoal dictate almost exclusively the efficiency of this particular ironmaking process and any changes in the charcoal strength, density and reactivity could profoundly change the present level of productivity in a charcoal blast furnace.
