Abstract

The work conducted for this thesis focuses on the effects of Ag-alloy materials on electrical properties, mechanical properties and microstructures of Bi-2223 tapes. In this work, Ag, AgAu, AgSb and AgMg were chosen as the precursor and restack sheath materials. The objectives of the work include: to investigate the phase formation of different alloy sheathed tapes fabricated using the powder-in-tube technique and heat treated at various temperatures; to measure the electrical properties of the alloy sheathed tapes; to characterise the mechanical properties of the alloy sheathed tapes and to observe the microstructures of the Bi(Pb)-Sr-Ca-Cu-0 material inside the alloy sheathed tapes.
