Abstract

It was the principal purpose of this study to identify both the sources of acute stress for competitive tennis players and the strategies the players employed to cope with their acute stressors. In addition, the study attempted to identify whether or not the variables of gender and skill level influenced: (1) the perceived intensity of acute stressors; 2) the choice of coping strategies to deal with acute stress; and 3) the perceived effectiveness of coping strategies following acute stress .
