Abstract

Two studies were conducted to investigate the sources of acute stress in sport (Part 1 of Study 1), self-reported use and perceived effectiveness of coping strategies (Part 2 of Study 1), and the effectiveness of a stress management training program (Study 2). The first two parts of Study 1 examined cultural and gender differences involving 136 Australian and 147 Indonesian teamsport competitive athletes. Participants in Study 2 were 45 Indonesian field hockey student athletes randomly assigned into an experimental and a control group, with a similar number of high- and low-stressed individuals in each group.
