Abstract

This thesis examines some of the difficulties involved in shape modelling fov problems involving trapped fluid motion over the continental margin. Edge wave solutions, to the linearized long wave equations, are sought for a number of margin profiles. In the analysis, full account is taken of the effects of horizontal divergence and the earth's rotation, analytic forms being presented for both high frequency as well as low frequency oscillations.
