Abstract

In order to clarify the overburden failure and fracture development in gob under the condition of mining with gob-side entry formed by cutting roof, theoretical analysis, numerical simulation and field measurement were used to study them. The research results show that, under the condition of mining with gob-side entry formed by cutting roof, after the direct roof and basic roof are cut off, the fracture position of the basic roof is transferred to the side of the gob, which reduces the disturbance of the side block rotation and sinking on the roof of the gob-side entry. The breaking of the basic roof when initial pressure and periodic pressure appear is transformed from the original "O-X" type to the approximate "rectangular" structure. The cutting of the basic roof made the basic roof and the overburden under its control fully collapse, and the height of the caving zone in the gob increase obviously. After cutting the roof, the size of the separation fracture above the caving zone decrease or even disappear, the number of gas-guiding fractures in the caving zone increase, and the number of gas-guiding fractures in the overburden above the caving zone decrease.
