Abstract

• The inclusion of indigenous perspectives as part of the global definition in social work should be meaningfully utilised across social work education, practice, policy and research.
• Indigenous world views have been devalued at the cost of privileging dominant western discourses; however, this should be challenged and revalued.
• The need to promote the decoloniality of social work as everyone's responsibility is part of creating a sustainable change and difference.
• Social workers deconstruct and reconstruct the way in which they implement and undertake their profession; also evident in the underlying notions of Pacific social work.
