Abstract

The main objective of this book is to highlight the practical applications of public health education and health promotion interventions in various settings addressing the chronic diseases in particular and other health problems in general. In this book, a wide range of public health education and health promotion interventions have been applied to address the chronic diseases such as Type 2 diabetes and HIV/AIDS, injury prevention and control, smoking cessation, physical activity and dietary interventions at individual and community levels and assessed the effectiveness of these interventions. In relation to health promotion, the main objective and contribution is to use a combination of health education and health promotion interventions at the primary level of prevention, such as anti-smoking approach designed to facilitate behavioural and environmental changes conducive to health enhancement. The other objective and contribution of this book is to reduce the health inequality among populations as the goals of public health aimed at population-wide health improvement, implying a concern to reduce health inequalities. Social and epidemiological studies have shown that social and economic factors at a community or population level are increasingly important to explain the health inequity of different population groups.
