Abstract
This chapter provides a clarification of the distinction between the non-verbal and the verbal from a personal construct perspective. It also considers issues distinguishing personal construct approaches to assessment from more traditional ones. A variety of techniques used in assessment contexts are explored, illustrating how the distinction between verbal and non-verbal is not as clearcut as might be anticipated. Not infrequently the verbal is used to communicate further about the non-verbal and the non-verbal can lead to different sorts of verbal foci.
