© 2020 Elsevier Ltd Instead of undergoing the Newman-Kwart rearrangement, thermally-promoted reactions of O-aryl dimethylthiocarbamates featuring ortho-carboxylic acid substituents result in the loss of carbonylsulfide and formation of N,N-dimethylsalicylamides in high yields.
