Background: The 1984 Heritage Week Radio was the third test broadcast of the Illawarra Community Broadcasters. One of their primary aims was to generate support for a radio transmission licence. To this end, an engaging program was broadcast from studios in the PDS building Keira Street (now the site of Kenny St Car Park), featuring music from Wollongong Conservatorium, two locally produced radio plays along with a selection of jazz and folk music.
