Abstract

Indigenous art is rarely considered in the context of performance art or its present-day manifestations in relational art. This is partly because modern-day champions of Indigenous art have sought to escape its earlier anthropological frame in a collective and performative sensibility by developing paradigms of individualism and aesthetic nuance that better fit the conventions of Western modernism.
