Abstract
Andrew Conacher gave a most engaging and enjoyable talk on Sir Humphry Davy, his background and life and the importance of the Davy Lamp. Sir Humphry invented the miner's safety lamp in 1815. He was awarded the Royal Society's Rumford Medal in 1816 and the Royal Medal in 1827 for his work.
