Abstract
With the rapidly rising worldwide burden of Type 2 diabetes (T2DM), preventative strategies are increasingly being considered, and intervention studies have targeted high risk groups, in particular those with impaired glucose tolerance [1] and [2]. Women who have had gestational diabetes (GDM) are another high risk group for whom similar preventative measures may be effective. It has been estimated that up to one-third of women with T2DM may have had earlier GDM [3]. Therefore, if we routinely introduce women who have had GDM to diabetes prevention programs, we may be able to influence the population prevalence of diabetes.
