Research Background Time_Place_Space (TPS) is a national initiative aiming to challenge, invigorate and strengthen hybrid arts practice in Australia. A two-week residential laboratory, TPS2 brought together twenty artists from around Australia to work with facilitators from Australia, the Netherlands, the UK and Canada. TPS2 sought to: * Challenge existing practices of participating artists; * Encourage an environment of reflexivity and debate; * Seed the development of new works; * Strengthen content, particularly in the context of live performance and technology; * Explore interfaces between disciplines and the nature of collaboration; * Consider the increasing hybridity of contemporary arts practice; and * Address what it means to sustain a meaningful arts practice.
Research Contribution TPS2 offered substantial creative research and professional development strategies for artists, developed alongside broader strategies that acknowledge the need for networks and structures to enable a sustainable arts practice. Beyond the impact on participating artists, the strengthening of national networks, growth of international connections, the increased sophistication in practice and the seeding of numerous projects nationally, has seen this project continuing support and endorsed nationally.
Research Significance Time_Place_Space 2 is an initiative of the New Media Arts Board of the Australia Council for the Arts managed by Performance Space, Sydney, which was awarded through competitive tender. Six participants received financial support to participate from: Arts Victoria, Arts WA, the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Arts Board (Australia Council) and PICA. Funding was also received from the Ian Potter Foundation. The site-partner was Charles Sturt University, Wagga Wagga.
