Abstract

Paolo Cinanni's (1968 and 1974) socio-historical studies of mass migration from Calabria between 1860 and 1970 have been augmented and enhanced by Pasquino Crupi's work (1979, 1993-1997, 2002a, 2002b) on the articulation of themes related to this phenomenon in modern and contemporary Calabrian literature. As Joseph Pivato (2005) shows for Canada, Calabrians in the diaspora have also given literary articulation to the migration experience and its consequences.
