Abstract

This description of the Women’s International War Crimes Tribunal on Japan’s Military Sexual Slavery, held in Tokyo in December 2000, highlights some of the features of the event: the extraordinary transnational collaboration which made the event possible, the vital importance of historical research for this campaign, and the ways in which debates about history have moved from the academy to the mass media and the spaces of civil society.
