RESEARCH IMPACT STATEMENT

Research Background

‘untitled 1990-2010’ was produced specifically for the exhibition, UNSEEN FORCES curated by Lily Hibberd, and shown at ICAN, Sydney Australia. Redgate also exhibited a sculptural tableaux from an earlier series, called ‘Pigs can’t get up sleeves can they mum? Participating artists: Denis Beaubois, Lauren Brincat, Laresa Kosloff, Alexis Martinis Roe, Jacky Redgate and Kiron Robinson.

Research Contribution

‘Untitled 1990-2010’ continues Redgate’s research into photographic documentation being a 1:1 photographic replica of Redgate’s earlier work, ‘untitled’, 1990, from Fox-Talbot, Articles of China [plate iii] and Articles of Glass [plate iv], in The Pencil of Nature, 1844-46, library buckram, cardboard, ceramic, glass, 124 x 79 x 27.5cm. In this work ‘the object is “separated from its continuous function” emphasising that in [these] photographs … the objects are bifurcated, divorced from ontological possibility of feeling’ (Hibberd, 2010)

Research Significance

‘untitled 1990-2010’ was exhibited by invitation in UNSEEN FORCES, which presented the work of six Australian contemporary artists, curated by artist and writer, Lily Hibberd, the founding editor of un magazine. The exhibition was accompanied by a catalogue and essay written by Lily Hibberd, Monash University Art and Design ISBN 978-1-921179.
