Abstract

The existing linear generators (LGs) are mostly made of ordinary steel cores that is used for conversion of oceanic wave energy into electrical energy. It is analyzed that, excessive magnetic core loss occurs because of using these conventional cores in the LG which cannot generate more output power due to low saturation point. In this paper, a direct drive LG (DDLG) is proposed where advanced cores DI-MAX HF 10 and Armco DIMAX non-oriented electrical steel M27 are used for reducing the core loss. The same DDLG is simulated for the conventional steel core and the proposed advanced cores. Simulation results show that, the lowest core loss as well as the highest output power is achieved for DI-MAX HF 10 cored DDLG.
