Monitoring and control of welding processes: an underrated requirement

Abstract
The paper discusses the need for improved monitoring and control in welding processes. It highlights the potential shortcomings of existing practices and suggests the steps which need to be taken to ensure that adequate joint quality is achieved. Some of the recent developments in computerbased instrumentation which may be employed to facilitate this task are also described.
