Abstract

While much research attention focuses on developing alternative energy sources, automotive technologies or waste disposal techniques, we often ignore the fact that the ability to optimize (existing) operations to reduce their missions impact is fundamental to this exercise. Business process management (BPM) technology, with its focus on understanding, modelling and improving business processes, is a key starting point. This Chapter provides early results on how existing BPM technology can be extended to allow for environmental aware business process improvement, taking the enterprise context explicitly into account.
