Abstract

In this paper, we focus on the implementation of RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) technology and infrastructure in Jebel Ali port, UAE to increase the reliability and efficiency of the port process. RFID is a technology that enables automatic identification of objects without the need for human intervention. The application of this technology in a port aims to increase control, visibility and security of container operations. Tagging each container with an RFID tag can help in real-time identification and tracking of containers by a variety of strategically placed readers, reaching new levels of traceability and control. In the long run, such a system will increase the productivity of the port by reducing the handling time for each container. In our solution, we define the architecture of the proposed system based on the structure and operations of Jebel Ali port, UAE. In addition, we analyze the solution based on the FCAPS network management model and present an estimation of investment required for implementation. 2013 IEEE.
