Abstract
[extract] Shaped like an elongated S, the Socialist Republic of Vietnam stretches the length of the Indochinese Peninsula and covers a surface area of 329,560 square kilometres. The history of this small country can be described as nothing less than heroic and is marked by a nearly continuous fight for independence and autonomy against some of the biggest economies in the world, such as China, Japan, France and the United States of America.
