Abstract

This volume, edited by Hal Hill, Tham Siew Yean and Ragayah Haji Mat Zin, is motivated by Malaysia's transition from low to middle income status. Malaysia's success story has attracted the attention of academics, researchers and policymakers. The main theme underlying this edition is the challenges confronted by Malaysia as it strives to achieve developed-country status. The volume consists of an interesting collection of macro, micro and policy oriented papers to place these developmental challenges in context. The main contribution of the volume lies in the detailed analysis of Malaysia's development trajectory since independence, from different perspectives, and identification of key issues that the authors believe pose a challenge to achieving high income status.
