Abstract

We are grateful to two anonymous reviewers and the editor, Professor Garry Barrett, for comments and suggestions that improved the manuscript. In particular, we would like to acknowledge their openness to the use of "people‐first language" when talking about persons with obesity. Likewise, we are thankful to seminar participants at the Center for Health Economics at Monash University and the Asian Development Bank. We also benefitted from conference and workshop participants at the International Health Economics Association Conference in Basel, the Workshop on the Economics of Health, Inequality, and Behavior at Macquarie University, and the Applied Econometrics Workshop at Victoria University Wellington. This paper uses unit record data from the Household, Income and Labour Dynamics in Australia (HILDA) Survey. The HILDA Project was initiated and is funded by the Australian Government Department of Social Services (DSS) and is managed by the Melbourne Institute of Applied Economic and Social Research (Melbourne Institute). The findings and views reported in this paper, however, are those of the authors and should not be attributed to either DSS or the Melbourne Institute
